The following Protective Clothing Policy is applicable to all Employees working with any kind of hazardous material
Employees will be issued with the following items :

PPE remains the property of the Company and the Company has the right to inspect all these work suits at a date and time determined by the Company.
Lost, stolen or damaged PPE will be replaced and will be deducted from employee’s salary.
Employees must at all times ensure that PPE is in a clean, neat, and usable condition.
If employees need PPE throughout the year, they must report this to their supervisors.
The supervisor must then order items as per PPE Ordering System.
When an employee leaves the employment of the company, the cost of all protective clothing will be deducted from final salary.
It is the responsibility of the employee to take care of the protective clothing issued to him/her.
Employees must take care of their protective clothing:
Work suits must be washed regularly - you must wear a clean work suit every day.
Always wear socks with safety boots and gumboots
Clean and polish boots every day.
Clean all items of PPE every day.
Under no circumstances are employees allowed to work without their protective clothing.
It is a legal requirement to wear protective clothing and refusal to do so can and will lead to disciplinary action.
Once issued with protective clothing, it becomes the responsibility of the employee to wear it at all times during working hours.
This is for your own health and safety, and also a legal requirement.
Employees who have been issued with PPE and is found not wearing any of the items issued to them will be re-issued and an amount of double the replacement costs will be deducted from his/her salary.
If your protective clothing is no longer in a usable condition you have to report it to your supervisor who must report it to the HR Department in writing via the PPE Ordering System.
If your protective clothing is lost or stolen you have to report this to the supervisor . The replacement cost will be deducted from the salary of employee.
Employees are not allowed to do any alterations on safety wear for example cut gumboots shorter.
Gloves will be replaced regularly as soon as it becomes unusable.
PROTECTIVE CLOTHING ISSUING SYSTEM
The following system regarding issuing of PPE will apply with immediate effect to ensure that production is not influenced negatively through non-compliance:
NEW EMPLOYEES
Supervisor will send through a Request to Uniform Store Clerk (fully completed and signed by supervisor) – POSITION of employee is of UTMOST importance.
The PPE will be ordered and be booked out as per PPE Requirements Policy for the specific position.
The PPE will be sent to applicable supervisor with Receipt of PPE Form.
Supervisor will issue the employee with these items and send signed form back to HR and Uniform Store clerk for record purposes.
EXISTING EMPLOYEES
A Request to Order PPE form must be completed and send to Uniform Store Clerk.
Upon receipt of request, PPE will be ordered and packed
Items will be sent to Supervisor with Receipt of PPE form.
Supervisor must issue items and send signed form back to HR and Uniform Store Clerk for record purposes.
CONSUMABLES – DUST MASKS, GLOVES AND DISPOSABLE APRONS AND CAPS
These items must be changed quite frequently and to ensure that production is not affected unnecessarily due to shortage of these items the following rules will apply:
Supervisor will issue each employee with initial stock quantities. These quantities will be determined according to teams.
Supervisor must have a register which must regulate and control issue of items to employees.
Old items must be confiscated and destroyed by supervisor.
New items must be issued and register must be completed by supervisor.
Copies of register must be kept in a file for health and safety inspections
Supervisor must ensure that he/she keeps proper records for the receipt and issuing of these items.
Employees who are not in possession of old item will be held responsible for the replacement cost – this is to avoid reckless and negligent use of PPE.
Supervisor will issue these items to employees as the need arises and send a copy of this register to HR for record purposes.
